I am currently studying my MA in Creative Writing with Manchester Metropolitan University. I am due to graduate in January 2021 and have decided that after this I would like to turn my hand to editing. I intend to take a variety of editing courses to enhance something I already feel good at.
Feedback from those I have already helped with developmental and line editing, has been positive, mostly revolving around my critical yet encouraging approach.
After my MA I will be looking for some initial unpaid line and developmental editing work. All I'd ask for in return is an honest review of how you found my critiques/edits.
If you would be interested in this please don't hesitate to drop me an email. You can get a glimpse of my style through my bookstagram reviews.
How I edit;
The first thing you should know about my editing style is that I am honest but objective. Personal taste is something I try to refrain from bringing into the mix. I look at your story in the context of what you are trying to achieve. Be that humour, drama, terror or even the political.
I am honest and critical but I am also positive. If you have the bones of a good story, all that you need is good execution and good execution just takes practice, the right questions being asked, and someone who wants the best for your novel.
I combine line editing and developmental editing to make your story the best it can be.
I look at the story line by line to ensure there is a consistent tone, characterisation and world building throughout.
I have a keen eye for detail that means if you have loose ends in your novel, or hints at subplots that are never followed through on, I will most likely catch them.
I will never rewrite your work for you. That is not my job, these are your words and this is your work. Instead I will ask questions that try to nudge you in the right direction.
The only time I would ever rewrite a sentence would be to articulate fully where the problem lies or to give an example.
I know how crushing it is to receive poor comments under the guise of critiques. Therefore, I only ever endeavour to lift authors who trust we with their manuscript up. I will only take on projects that excite me and that I see potential in. This means I am fully invested in helping your writing be the best it can be.
